Ollie, the therapy dog at Prairieville Counseling

About Me

Hi, I'm Ollie! I am a 4 year old Cockapoo, which means I'm a mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. I was born on May 24, 2022, and I have an important job as Prairieville Counseling's therapy dog. My favorite things include chasing tennis balls, greeting people in the lobby, and, of course, getting plenty of ear scratches and attention.

My job is to help clients feel comfortable, supported, and welcomed from the moment they walk through the door. Whether I'm greeting you in the lobby, quietly resting during your session, or simply sitting beside you, I'm here to offer comfort and a calming presence.

Service Animals & Pets

To help ensure the safety and comfort of Ollie, our clients, and our staff, pets and emotional support animals are not permitted in our office. Trained service animals are always welcome in accordance with applicable laws.

If you plan to bring a service animal to your appointment, please let our office know in advance. This allows us to ensure Ollie is safely secured or out of the office before your arrival so that both animals remain comfortable and safe throughout your visit.

Being a therapy dog takes a lot of training!

I have completed extensive obedience, behavior, and socialization training to ensure I can safely and confidently work alongside therapists and clients of all ages.

I am proud to have earned the following certifications and titles:

  • AKC Therapy Dog (THD)

  • AKC Trick Dog Intermediate (TKI)

  • AKC Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA)

I am also a member of the Bayou Buddies Pet Therapy Program

What is a Therapy Dog?

A therapy dog is trained to provide comfort, emotional support, and companionship in therapeutic settings. Unlike pets, therapy dogs complete extensive training in obedience, behavior, and socialization so they can safely and appropriately interact with people of all ages.

I am not a service dog and do not have special privileges in public spaces such as shopping centers, airplanes, or restricted housing. I receive unlimited exclusive access only at Prairieville Counseling with our therapists and clients.

Things to Know

Even I need time to rest and recharge! I get to choose whether I want to join a therapy session or take a break. When I decide it's time to rest, you'll find me relaxing in one of my cozy spots around the office where I can recharge before helping another client.

Even if we do not meet during your session, you may still see me around the Prairieville Counseling office. If you have allergies, a fear of dogs, or would prefer not to be around me, just let our team know before your appointment. They'll be happy to make accommodations, so you feel comfortable during your visit.
